Boston Area Chapter Board

Sylvia Beaulieu is the Vice President of Business Development for The Richmond Group. She is responsible for generating new business opportunities in the Life Sciences market. Ms. Beaulieu brings over 18 years experience in the A/E/C industry. Previously, she served as Director of Client Development for Columbia Construction. Ms. Beaulieu is very active in the A/E/C industry. She is currently the President of the Boston chapter of International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE). She is also on the Advisory Board for The Center for Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences at Merrimack College.

Ms. Beaulieu has been an active member of ISPE for 9 years and has served on the board for 5 years and is the past chair of the social committee.  

Jim Grunwald is the President of SciTech Builders, a Construction Management, Design/Build and General Construction company focused on sectors including Life Sciences, Automated Manufacturing, Mission Critical and Cogeneration projects. He has been in the industry for over 20 years. During that time Jim has focused his efforts in four distinct areas, Planning/Site Selection/Due Diligence, Design/Build, Construction Management and application of new technologies for Sustainable Initiatives. He has been an ISPE Member for 11 years; on the Boston Area Chapter Board of Directors for the past 8 years; past Chair of Social Programs Committee, past Chair of the Product Show Committee; past Chair of the Member Services Committee and currently the liaison of the Boston Area Chapters Young Professionals Group.

Doyle Johnson is a Project Manager for CDI Life Sciences, currently working as a consultant to Genzyme on the 74 New York Avenue Cell Culture Expansion project.  He was previously Sr. Director of Engineering and Facilities for MassBioLogics, a developer of Vaccines based on Monoclonal Antibody Technology and part of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He has thirty-one years of chemical and pharmaceutical industry experience and has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, an MS in Organic Chemistry from Northeastern University and an MBA with High Honors from Babson College. Mr. Johnson has worked for three startup companies, Polaroid Corporation, and Herzog-Hart (later CDI), an Engineering company specializing in Pharmaceutical work, prior to joining MassBioLogics in 2005.

Besides serving as Past President of ISPE Boston Chapter, he is currently on the International Board of Directors and has been an active member of ISPE for over 15 years.

 

Janet Tice is a co-founder and co-owner of GMP Piping, a process piping contractor specializing in high purity piping for pharma, biotech and related industries where she is currently responsible for a variety of functions including project documentation. After earning a BA in biology and math from Bennington College, Ms. Tice worked for several years as a Research Assistant in Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School before joining Millipore Corporation where her 20-year career included management positions in sales, product marketing and technical support. After leaving Millipore and before starting GMP Piping in 2002, Ms. Tice worked as a freelance technical writer specializing in product documentation for the medical device industry.

Ms. Tice has been an active member of ISPE and the Boston Area Chapter Communications Committee for 5 years and has served as Committee Chairperson and Board Member since 2006.  

Brian Hagopian is the Vice President of Research and Development for Mar Cor Purificaiton.Brian holds a degree in chemistry from Colgate University.   Brian has been a volunteer on the ISPE product show committee since 1998 and has also served on the ISPE Board of Directors from 1999-2001.  Brian has been the chairperson of the ISPE product show committee since 2006 and was instrumental in bringing the product show to Gillette stadium, where it has broken attendance records and become a model of success for other chapters to emulate.

  

Deepen Joshi is a compliance manager at Sepracor, Inc. where he leads teams for the implementation of computerized systems used in manufacturing, laboratory, clinical, enterprise, CRM and IT Infrastructure. Deepen has masters in computer science from University of Bridgeport with 6+ years of experience in validation life cycle, software development life cycle, project management and auditing. Prior to joining Sepracor, Deepen worked as a consultant onsite at Sepracor, Bristol Myers Squibb and Merck pharmaceuticals. There he provided validation services for reducing validation timelines and implemented laboratory systems.

Deepen has been an active member of the Communications Committee of ISPE for 2 years and active member of ISPE for almost the same time.

   

Marita King is a manufacturer's representative with MARITeK, specializing in the sales and marketing of process equipment, incorporating traditional and new technologies, such as disposables. She currently represents Xcellerex for single-use bioreactors and mixing systems; clean-in-place systems by Electrol Specialties Company, and stainless steel vessels from T&C Stainless. She has 1 9 years of biopharmaceutical experience, including a focus on pure water and WFI production, as well as product sterilization. Prior to starting MARITeK, she was the East Coast division manager for Kuhlman Technologies (formerly Finn-Aqua America). Ms. King has served on the Board of the Boston Area Chapter for seven years and has led the Chapter Excellence initiatives. Previously, she has held officer positions with the Carolina-South Atlantic Chapter with ISPE Chapter Excellence recognition during her leadership. She has been a speaker for regional ISPE Boston events on topics such as WFI production and preparation for FAT, as well as a program moderator.

Kevin Lynch is director of manufacturing at Shire, Human Genetic Therapies a leading Biopharmaceutical Company. He has eighteen years of manufacturing and manufacturing support experience and has a BS in Biology from University of Vermont and has a certificate in Leadership and Development from WPI. For three years after graduating, Mr. Lynch worked as an operations associate at Cambridge Bioscience manufacturing test kits for HIV/HTLV I/II, vaccines for Lyme disease and processing plasmas and toxins for use in screening test kits. Over the next 5 years, he participated in the start up of the Genzyme Allston landing facility and advanced through purification and manufacturing technical support and was part of the team which successfully obtained license approval for Cerezyme an Enzyme Replacement Therapy. His biotech experience has continued for the past 12 years at Shire, Human Genetic Therapies (previously Transkaryotic Therapies) developing a manufacturing group and transferring the processes to produce drugs for Enzyme Replacement therapies including Replagal, Elaprase and VPRIV.

Mr. Lynch has been an active member of ISPE for 8 years.  

 

 

Christopher Opolski is the Process Automation Manager for Alexion Pharmaceutical's Smithfield, Rhode Island manufacturing facility. Alexion develops new therapies for patients with severe, life-threatening and often ultra-rare diseases. Chris is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Plant Control System. He has been in the industry for nearly 20 years previously working for various automation and process engineering consulting firms. He has been a Member of ISPE for almost 10 years; on the Boston Area Chapter Board of Directors for the past year; a member of the Social Programs Committee for three years and currently holds the position of Chair of the Social Programs Committee. 

Pietro Perrone

Pietro has been an active member of the Communications Committee of ISPE for eleven years and on the board of directors since 2007. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and an active participant in the Ichthyologists (the local section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers). He is involved in community support activities such as a contributor to the efforts of Massachusetts Library Association and is a director on the Pocahontas Greenbelt Corporation.

 

Bob Urbanowski is currently a Business Development Manager for Functional Safety at TUV Rheinland North America. In this national role, he helps automation, instrumentation and OEM suppliers with both compliance to safety requirements and to gain worldwide market access for their products. He is able to draw on many years of experience as a technical sales professional as well as prior career accomplishments in Quality Assurance for various manufacturing organizations. Prior to joining TUVR, he was instrumental in the specification and deployment of process automation systems at some the largest New England area bio-pharma sites as an Account Manager at AutomaTech .

 

Lee Ward , M.I.E.T. is a degreed Electrical Engineer, educated in England at Aston and Handsworth. His specialty is in Control and Instrumentation with a bias toward Automation, and Process Control. He is an active Member of the Institute of Engineering Technologists (formerly known as the Institute of Electrical Engineers) and participates in several industry organizations: ISPE, ACEC, AEE. Lee currently is employed by Rockwell Automation as a Regional Business Manager serving the Engineering Consultancy, A&E and EPC community, providing industry solutions to Life Sciences, Power, and Environmental projects   

  

Jay Zaino is president and co-founder of GxP Automation, LLC which specializes in offering turnkey automation, commissioning, and validation services for Life Science facilities. After receiving a BS in Electrical Engineering from University of Lowell (currently UMASS Lowell), Mr. Zaino has over 22 successful years in engineering, software development, and validation strategies for critical automation systems serving the Life Science Industry.  Mr. Zaino is an industry leader in implementing new facility integration technologies, automation initiatives, and validation strategies for the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device markets.

Mr. Zaino has been a member of ISPE since 1993 and currently serves on the ISPE Boston chapter educational committee.
