ISPE Becoming an Accomplice

Workshop Via Zoom

ISPE Boston’s Ethnocultural Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee invites you to our Webinar: Do the Work; Becoming an Accomplice. Understanding your privilege and identifying as an ally are a start, yet not enough. We have to do the work. This workshop covers the next steps in anti-racist work, past allyship into becoming an accomplice. We will examine the differences between these two concepts, learn to recognize performative allyship, share insight about what it means, and how to start the necessary work of becoming an accomplice. Segments of this virtual, interactive workshop will use breakout groups to enhance discussion and build community. The EDEI Committee has partnered with Change Cadet to provide this education to the ISPE Boston Area Chapter.

About Gitanjali Morris l Change Cadet Head of Strategy & Facilitator

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Gitanjali is dedicated to building and supporting inclusive and expansive communities that foster a deep sense of belonging. She has a demonstrated history of working in the architecture and planning industry, with nearly fifteen years of experience in the private and non-profit sectors. She is drawn to impact-driven companies and brands, and she has worked with clients in the fields of health and wellness, fitness, real estate, environmental planning, and urban design. Gitanjali's broad range of experience ranges from doing on-the-ground community organizing work in the housing field in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Fresno, and Merced, to running marketing and business development initiatives for architecture and planning firms.

Gitanjali believes the work each of us do 'on the side,' including diversity work, must be at the center. In addition to working in the private sector, Gitanjali teaches dance to large groups of women, which has underscored the importance of having women of color in leadership roles, building spaces where individuals feel they belong, and guiding a community through influential and change-making experiences. Her life experience and identity in white-dominated workplaces give her a unique perspective into the ways in which we must be mindful, intentional, and thoughtful about change.
