PROGRAM SUMMARY: Being successful and achieving your career goals can be more difficult if you do not learn to effectively “manage up” to meet expectations and help make your manager a “Rock Star.” If you help your manager- as well as their manager- achieve success, you will likely be successful as well. But, it all begins with YOU.
In this session we will walk through eight points to assist you as you seek to make your manager or supervisor a Rock Star of the office, company or work location. To help you easily remember, we will use R-O-C-K S-T-A-R to guide our points.
As recent as April 10, 2018, the Wall Street Journal carried an article by Sue Shellenbarger, “The Right and Wrong Way to Manage Up at the Office.” In the article, Shellenbarger quotes, “It pays to figure out what motivates your boss... Does he or she need to look important? Find ways to help her talk about her successes... Does he want to be in control? Give him lots of information about what you’re doing and offer choices about next steps so he can make the decision.”
With this as the backdrop and ROCK STAR as our acronym, we will discuss establishment of a Relationship; Observation of behaviors; Clarity in Communication; Knowing your manager/supervisor (the how); Solutions vs. problems; Trust; Anticipation of needs; and Responsibility. Join us as we engage and interact throughout the webinar to learn some important ways to “manage up.”
