“Because Time is Money” – Biopharma Manufacturing Efficiencies & Improvements at the Product Show

“Because Time is Money” – Biopharma Manufacturing Efficiencies & Improvements at the Product Show

The 2018 ISPE Boston Area Chapter Product Show is just around the corner. And, once again, our robust educational program will have something for everyone! There will be 20 presentations throughout the day divided into four tracks:

  • Track 1: Risk Management & Quality
  • Track 2: The Future Of Biopharma Manufacturing
  • Track 3: Biopharma Manufacturing Efficiencies & Improvements
  • Track 4: Optimizing Facilities Through Innovations & Technologies

This year, educational sessions will be upstairs on the Red Level. So just take the elevator from the Show floor and follow the signs.

Last week, I wrote about Track 2: The Future of Biopharma Manufacturing. If you missed it or my previous post on Track 1: Risk Management & Quality, you can click here  to check out those posts. This week, I want to talk about Track 3: Biopharma Manufacturing Efficiencies & Improvements. All of us are trying to find ways to do things faster and save money, so we have lined up some of the industry’s leading experts to teach you ways you can improve and make your facilities more efficient, thus reducing your operating costs.

First, at 10:30am, Jesse Coiro of Erlab, Inc. will present Defining the Design of your Laboratory: The Possibilities with Filtration. He will show you how the design of the lab is simplified, reducing not only first cost but, more importantly, annual energy consumption and carbon footprint and achieving the ultimate goal –  zero net energy (ZNE) – while providing a level of safety few realize is available.

Then, at 12:00pm, Wayne Bates of Tighe & Bond will present Challenges Assessing and Treating Biotechnology Wastewater: Case Study on Phenol Treatment. Grab some of the free food and head upstairs to see how a Cambridge biomanufacturer solved their wastewater issues and made the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) happy while eliminating potential fines that would have hit their bottom line.

At 1:30pm, John Klostermyer of Steris Corporation shares practical advice and case studies from his recent Pharmaceutical Engineering article, Integrated VPHP Decontamination Systems: The Emerging Utility. Learn how this emerging decontamination technology saves time and money over current labor intensive, less efficient methods.

After that, at 3:00pm, Carl Vose of The Stonhard Group reviews Advancements & Applications in Resinous Floors and Walls  Using the right coatings will save you time and money in cleaning and decontamination and keep you out of trouble with the FDA.

We close the track at 4:30pm with a panel discussion on Simplifying Single Use Technology (SUT). The Panelist Moderator Mark McElligot (Process Design Solutions Sandbox) will be joined by Polly Hanff (Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics), Mark Maselli (Homology Medicines), Jay Harp (Integra Companies LLC) and Bill Devine (Pharma-Tech Process and Facility Services, Inc.).  This panel of SUT end users and subject matter experts will provide their different perspectives and case studies on SUT implementation for both new and existing facilities and describe how this technology makes them more efficient. This promises to be a very robust discussion, so grab a beer from the bar before you settle in to hear from these experts.

As our old friend Ben Franklin observed, “If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.”  So invest some of your time at one or all of these sessions and make yourself more valuable. See you next week for the final post in this series and see you at the Product Show on September 22!
